When cavities or minor damage occurs, it is important to treat the area as soon as possible. In these cases, tooth-colored fillings provide a natural look, good durability and resistance to fracture.
At Madison Family Dental, we encourage our patients to do everything they can to protect their teeth and keep them healthy, but when minor dental damage or decay does occur, we often recommend a tooth-colored filling to restore oral health. These strong, long-lasting restorations are designed to look no different from natural tooth material. As a matter of fact, they can also be used cosmetically to change the color or shape of a tooth.
The process for providing a tooth-colored filling is relatively simple. If necessary, anesthesia will be used. Then, our experts start by removing any decay and existing filling material that is present. Next, we carefully apply the filling material directly on to the tooth in order to seal off any openings or voids. The material is then given the opportunity to harden before it is polished and shaped to provide the treated tooth with a natural appearance. We will then examine the treated tooth and make sure that the patient’s bite is normal.
We would like to remind patients that dental fillings are only suitable for treating teeth with mild damage or decay. Teeth that have developed or experienced more extensive damage will need to be treated in some other way. A visit to our practice will allow our experts to determine if a filling is needed.
